Christmas decorating this year was all about EASY!
Once the tree was up the rest of the great room/dining room looked a little sad and dejected. The answer for a quick easy Christmas decorating solution for that sad entry? Fresh greens!

In keeping with the woodsy Christmas tree farm theme of this year’s Christmas tree, I chose a garland that was a combination of both cedar and pine. It has a much more haphazard look and I simply draped them in place and secured them with my favorite adjustable rubber ties! DONE! No stressing over trying to make them look perfect and polished! What? A piece of pine isn’t quite behaving? Who cares! This is the woods after all!
For just a little pizazz I pulled out icy artichoke sprays that I had from previous years and tucked one into the drape of the greens above the entry mirror.
The stairway got a matching treatment to tie everything together!
All that was left in the entry was to put together easy Christmas decorating magic for the buffet!
Let me tell you!!! I thought about this one for hours! Or maybe it was it was just a couple minutes! 😊
First I headed to the prop room (a fancy sounding reference to my storage room) and snagged these rusty candle holders to carry on with the rustic theme, along with two Luminara candles to top them off with. These are my very favorite faux flame candles because you literally can’t tell the difference between them and the real thing when lighted! It’s possible that I might have tried to blow them out at the end of the evening a few times!😳 Yep, they are that realistic! When I keep my wits about me one of the things I like best is that they have a remote to turn them on and off or you can use the built-in timer so that they turn on and off all by themselves!
Now it was time to open up my Christmas storage tubs and dig around for just the right items to complete the display. The winners? These glittery green bottle brush trees that I found in the Dollar Spot at Target last year and a sparkly silver moose to stand in the bottle brush forest!
At the other end of the buffet, one of the vintage globe lights from last year’s dining centerpiece is filled with fairy lights to balance the light of the candles at night. A random dear shed and my version of a jackalope!
You may recall that I found this rabbit bust last spring and paired him with a top hat for a fun display. He showed up again during the summer on the mantle, but from the first time I met this fellow and saw that he had holes below his ears, this is how I envisioned him! (I know, I know! My mind is a scary place sometimes! ☺)
See! Easy Christmas decorating can still be unique and filled with your own personality!
So have you forgotten about the reindeer yet? Don’t worry! We’re almost there!
Last weekend was my birthday. The Wildman had to work on Saturday so I filled the day by wrapping presents. ALL of them!
It was a marathon, but once I started I just couldn’t seem to stop!
This marathon revealed to me that I could really use an elf for a trusty sidekick who will do all the wrapping leaving me free to spend my time tieing pretty bows! I really like tieing bows!
I finished just in time to get dressed to go out for my birthday dinner with the Wildman. Fortunately, ridding my closet of all of those boxes and bags meant that I could actually reach my clothes!
On Sunday afternoon it was time to head out on a birthday junkin’ trip with my daughter. We headed to one of my favorite antique stores that is just far enough away that I don’t get to go there often. It was there that the magical reindeer event took place.
I was strolling through the booths looking for nothing in particular. Of course, I always have my personal flea market shopping list in mind on such occasions, but I was really hoping to find a wildcard piece. Something totally unique that I had no idea I needed until I saw it!
One of my favorite vendors has multiple booths in the back of the store. And that’s where it happened!
I turned the corner into the back room to be greeted by a gorgeous display of vintage goods! There were treasures EVERYWHERE! Suspended from the ceiling, propped against old ladders, hanging from vintage Christmas trees! It was truly magical! The kind of visual eye candy that demands that you stand in the middle and turn around very, very slowly to take it all in without missing a morsel of loveliness!
There I stood making a slow sweep of my surroundings when I could have sworn I heard someone whisper my name! Then I saw her!
She stood among the treasures atop an antique lamp stand looking so very perfectly tattered and lovely! Her fur was slightly worn in places, her antique child’s dress had a few perfectly placed stains of age, and she had a bird sitting on her head! Can you EVEN?
For a moment all I could do was stare at her. I could swear that she looked deep into my eyes and asked ever so politely if she could please come home with me. I peaked my head out of the booth and called for my daughter to come see what I had found. Mackenzie took one look into the booth and immediately knew what I had called her over to see. She declared that this piece, indeed, looked like ME! (She knows me so well! ☺)
Now, Y’all know that I try to stay on budget and I truly tried to resist the pull of this magical being! I even walked away . . . okay, so I never got out of the back room before I made Mackenzie go back over and talk through the situation. We examined her closely and made an appropriately thought out “pro/con” list in our heads in true Gilmore Girl fashion.
The bottom line? It was my birthday! And, after all, she HAD whispered my name! So I told her not to worry, she would be going home with me to be loved for years to come!
She took up residence on the fireplace hearth flanked by the cute little Christmas tree in a silver sugar server that my daughter had given me as part of my birthday present. (I told you she knows me well!) I pinned a simple little Christmas greeting to her dress for good measure and she is, indeed, perfection!!!!
After all, not just any reindeer would allow a sweet little bird to take a respite from its journey by riding atop her head! It is utterly clear to me that this girl has a heart of gold and love for all God’s creatures, great and small!
Is it wrong that I am already anticipating where she will find herself in next year’s Christmas decor?
For now, she fits right in with my goal of easy Christmas decorating! One major focal point can make any space festive without a great deal of effort.
The moral of this story . . . when a reindeer whispers your name and asks you to take her home with you, you should listen!
Hugs ’til next time!
